  • ISO 18788 Management System for Private Security Company Operations is a standard that specifies requirements and provides guidance for organizations conducting or contracting security operations.
  • ISO 18788:2015 provides a framework for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining, and improving the Security Operations Management System (SOMS).
  • ISO 18788 gives business and risk management the framework for SOMS, while demonstrating the conduct of professional security operations to meet clients’ and other stakeholders’ requirements, besides accountability to law and respect to Human Rights.

ISO 18788 draws on provisions from and provides mechanisms to demonstrate compliance with relevant principles, legal obligations voluntary commitments, and good practices of:

  • The International Code of Conduct for Private Security Providers (ICoC) 2010
  • The Montreux Document on Pertinent International Obligations and Good Practices for States Related to Operations of Private Military and Security Companies During Armed Conflict, 2008
  • Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, Implementing the United Nations “Protect, Respect and Remedy” Framework, 2011

In February of 2018, three federal government agencies established a joint agency agreement relevant to physical security services education and training produced by private military companies (PMCS) engaged in the performance of security services on DoD managed contracts.

The working agreement is a collaborative effort of the US Army War College under the auspices of the US Army Joint Chiefs of Staff.

A joint agency Memorandum of Understanding validates course accreditation to Private Military Companies involved in the production, delivery of security course training curriculum in direct support of Department of Defense missions abroad.

Accreditation of Private Military Company led high threat operations education and training has been approved for accredited by the US Army War College, the US Secretary of Education, and the Commission on Higher Education under the authority of United States Army Joint Chiefs of Staff.
